Labor Day signifies the end of summer which has always seems sad, endings are sad but if you turn an ending upside down it turns into a new beginning !
For instance how we end and begin each day, “Good Morning” Goodnight…not all endings are sad and you can not have a new beginning without an ending. So that said Labor Day is the end of summer and the beginning of Fall and Fall means cooler days, crispy leaves, pumpkins, the beginning of the school year, Fall Fashion, sweater weather, bike rides apple picking and back to school.
Labor Day is that last summer weekend where you try to squeeze that last bit of care free days and warm weather, shoes off, white clothes, light and easy long light days……in the East Coast Labor Day is super important because it is the change of seasons it means that colder days are coming… soon..
In California where the temperature only changes slightly its the beginning of “Gala Season,” School, Fall wardrobe, and its the season that leads to Winter …
So Labor Day is celebrated in California and all over the United States, with family picnics and summer weather excursions to the beach, the Wine Country and long hikes in the forest. Beyond The Fog spent the Labor Day Weekend exploring Oakland, Alameda and Tomalas Bay and Sausalito Art Festival
The Sausalito Art Festival is an annual event that happens in Sausalito every year with good food, great music and a fantastic collection of Artist showing their work from all over the State, every year its a well attended, super fun art fair that feels like a out door gallery with really good music.
This year Pride and Joy and Tower of Power played.
On a former navy base in Alameda a few very smart people created an Urban Winery out of a old airplane hanger, and put up a geometric dome as a place to enjoy wine, or have a party.
Rock Wall Wine Company is located in Alameda and its super cool, the the grapes are sourced from all over California , the wine ages in barrels in what used to be a Airplane hanger, one can enjoy the view is of the City, while drinking their wine, and its sunny sunny sunny.. the mixture of industry and big wood deck , a geometric dome and wine makes for a casual yet very interesting spot to try some very nice wines.
Tomales Bay remains to be one of the best quick ” get away’s” we have in the Bay Area. Only an hour and a half from San Francisco Its beautiful, tranquil, quiet and relaxing , We drove out to Tomales Bay in a convertible car and arrived at 11:00am for an early lunch at Hog Island Oyster Company, which has remained rustic in its approach. You can either reserve a picnic table and shuck your own Oysters or first come first serve you can bring your picnic lunch and buy the oysters from them already shucked with lemon and a sauce on the side, You can either order your whole lunch from them, and sit at picnic tables and enjoy your Oysters and beautiful bay, or you can bring your picnic and buy your Oysters already shucked we went or the combination of our picnic and their Oysters and it was perfect!
Then we met friends at the Sausalito Art Festival… Its was a Full and exceptional end of Summer..and beginning of the Very Social Fall Season!…
