Beyond The Fog went to Savanna in early October 2012..and found it to be a sweet town, prefectly perserved from pre- Civil War Days, one felt as if at any momment a women with too many petticoats and a fan would walk down the street smiling sweetly and then gossiping about you the moment you were out of ear shot.. The images that you may have in your mind about the South is confirmed in Savannah, it is warm in temperture, friendly and helpful, it is filled and bubbling over with history, every house has a long story to tell. Horse draw Buggy Tours of the Historic District makes you feel as if it is 1885..Savannah’s Historic District is made up of 29 different Squares that are beautifully maintained. The Homes are grand with extensive Iron work, upstairs balcolnys, and grand entrence’s. Many Movies have been filmed in Savannah and it is clear as to why, the Historic District is prefectly manicuried to perfection and the people of Savannah are very proud of their Historic District. The River Walk is very touristy with artisans, sea food restaraunt and on the weekend nights lots of drunk collage age kids.
The deep south still lives up to its reputation of segergation, and ignoring African Ameicans and their History, the welcome addition of Savannah’s School of Arts and Design is bringing in a large influx of Students who are from around the world, all shapes sizes and colors who travel from class by bike, and have created a blend of cultures that is changing the face of Savannah. The Coffee houses, and pubs have students, the fabric stores, art stores, book stores and gift stores are run by students, one tea house that was of interest was a place called Gryphon which the School has taken over, it was a Pharmacy turned into a tea house that has a delightful brunch. Savannah is an important part of American History, and they do a great job bringing the History to life.
